Intent
At Market Drayton Infant and Nursery, we believe that language and literacy are the foundations of all learning. Our intent is to develop confident, enthusiastic communicators who can speak, listen, read and write effectively, enabling them to succeed both academically and socially. We aim to foster a lifelong love of reading by providing rich, engaging and meaningful experiences with high-quality texts and literature from the very start of each child’s educational journey.
Through our English curriculum, we ensure that all pupils develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to become fluent readers and capable writers. We provide a language-rich environment where children are encouraged to explore, discuss and express their ideas with confidence. We place reading at the heart of our curriculum, promoting both reading for pleasure and reading for purpose, while building strong foundations in phonics, vocabulary, comprehension and communication.
Our curriculum is carefully designed to ensure that pupils:
